Blighted - The Shed - Leicester - 17/02/2005
Pete Gallagher - 18/02/2005

This was the big day for the newly reformed Blighted... Today we would perform out first Gig at the "World Famous" Shed Venue in the Leicester.

The whole band were understandably nervous in the hours leading up to the performance, but with a bit of luck everything would turn out to be absolutely fantastic.

I spent most of the day leading upto the gig over-dosing on both Water and a strange concoction of Organic Honey and Jif Lemon.. That's Jif not Cif of course, now that would clear you out.

A bit of a rush later, involving leaving work, going straight home, meeting Amy, her mum and Darryl at my house....Damn...they're early! Now I've got to rush around like a headless chicken man, and get ready!

Anyway, made it, sound checks and stuff then, highly embarrassing, singing alone without any backing... hmmmmm... scary... lol!

Kev had a panic moment when the band supplying the drums decides to remove their snare.. by all rights of course it was theirs after all! But a little conference with the Sound man and we secure another bands snare yipee!

Still not happy mind you Kev worries about using a completely different set of drums, set up in a different way, different sound etc etc. I can see where he's coming fom, like wearing someone else pants, only with more chance of injury!
But the sound check put all doubts to fear, as a quick run through of Wishing well proved.

Then much drinking later, people turning up... nice surprises, people who said they weren't coming and then do.. Always nice!

Turns out we're not on first anymore now too... ah well, more drinking time, god bless dutch courage!

Nine O'clock comes... ahh shit... we're on!

And the gig commences.....

Yippee.... only missing a couple of words out of the first verse.... and everything else goes fantasticly! Well, apart from the odd dropped stick....  bless Kev... right in the middle of his little solo part... bet he was dead embarassed bless him. But no one cared, infact it just added to the show!

So we managed to get through;

The Beatles - Day Tripper
The Cult - Lil' Devil
Steppenwolf - Born to be wild
Cream - Sunshine of you love
Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode
Free - Wishing Well

Everybody enojyed Born to be wild and Johnny B Goode, infact some people even dared to sing along! Yipee, crowd participation, always good.

To be fair, I wish I'd "jigged" around a little more, I reckon I was like one of those strange manakins you get in shop windows, only with a mike in my hand! lol

Tom spent most of the time pulling a strange face... his customary guitar face. Either that or sitting on something pointy... see the photos at the end... lol That as well as trying to get too far ahed of the set list....Woooo, Woooo! Crickey Tom, not yet funny lad! Hehehe.

Poor Darryl kept having flash backs of a previous gig here where he managed to plunge to almost certain doom, by falling off the stage.... Not gunna happen this time mind you, he kept well to the back!

Bless Amy, I think one more song and it would've been a trip to A&E to have her new prosthetic fingers fitted. They were hurting even before the gig had started. Ouch!

But the whole gig was great!

So more drinking...watching the other bands who were very good by the way!

Spent quite a lot of time wandering around taking pictures of, well, everything actually. As you can see in the rest of my space, or on the band website.. http://www.blighted.s5.com/giginfo.html

Then it's off home...via MacDonalds of course...hmmm...Hamburger, Chicken Burger and Fries...Nice, good cure for those late night munchies!

Home and sleep...

The end... lol

Thanks to everybody who came, we all really really appreciate it.

Hopefully you'll all come to our next gig! Keep checking on http://www.blighted.s5.com   for more details!

See you all soon.
